JUPITER, FL – April 9, 2011 – The Heartbeat of America resonated throughout Palm Beach International Raceway as thousands of spectators attended Saturday’s Super Chevy Show presented by GM Performance Division and presented locally by Schumacher Chevrolet.

Palm Beach International Raceway transformed into a Chevy enthusiasts’ dream on Saturday as Chevy-powered and bodied classics, customs and new models filled the PBIR road course during the car show.  Participants in the car show and event attendees also took to the north section of PBIR’s road course for the autocross event.

“We had a great racer and spectator turnout for Saturday’s Super Chevy Show at PBIR,” said Jason Rittenberry, President and CEO, Palm Beach International Raceway.  “The Super Chevy Show exceeded our expectations for Saturday; you can feel the excitement in the PBIR stands and pits.  The fan and racer response was tremendous.  We are looking forward to planning an even more exciting and bigger Super Chevy Show in 2012 and beyond.”

Joel “Mr. Motion” Rosen had the worldwide unveiling of the new Motion Performance Phase III Supercharged Camaro Supercar, a limited edition 800-horsepower, street-legal machine that’s available new from DeNooyer Chevrolet.  Rosen was famous in the 1960s and 1970s for building high-horsepower muscle cars for auto enthusiasts who needed 500-horsepower in their new cars.

On the drag strip, Jimmy Marino of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, qualified in the top spot in the Pro Mod class with a 4.195-second pass at 172.17 miles per hour.

Other Saturday results include:

  • Miami-native Stephen Vignon earned top honors in the 5th Gen Camaro Shootout.
  • Royal Palm Beach, FL, resident Joe Puelo won the Quick 16 Door Car trophy.
  • Hollywood, FL, resident Steve Dweck won Quick 16 Dragster and DriveDuracell.com Bracket 1 categories.
  • Deerfield Beach, FL, racer AJ Issman won the Bracket 2 class.
  • Stuart, FL, resident Mark Dixon posted the quickest overall average time in the True Street Class where participants competed on PBIR’s drag strip and Beeline Highway.

Activity was buzzing as Harry “The Hat” LaPlatte hosted the swap meet. Chevy and auto enthusiast swapped stories and parts during the day-long do-it-yourself area of the Super Chevy Show.

Fans were on their feet for the special exhibition runs from the Driven2Win two-seat dragster, Chattanooga Choo-Choo and Cannonball Express jet cars, the Airborne Express wheelstander and Southern SlingShots Nostalgia Drags.  While young racers built Revell Make ‘N Take 1969 Camaros in the activity tent.

Super Chevy Show continues on Sunday, April 10, with activity throughout the property.  Gates open at 10am.  Sunday’s event schedule includes an exhibition run as five-time NHRA Top Fuel Champion Joe Amato races against WFLX Fantasy Prize winner Chalmer Stauffer.  Sunday’s pre-race ceremonies also include Super Chevy Show Series Grand Marshal and NHRA Legend Darrell Gwynn.
