JUPITER, FL – May 22, 2011 – On a steamy May weekend, Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR) was full of action on both the drag strip and road course. From the side-by-side action on the drag strip to driver enhancement programs on the road course, fans watched motorcycles and race cars on the two main PBIR tracks.
Hooked on Driving used PBIR’s road course on Saturday for its high performance driving school (HPDS). Hooked on Driving provides drivers of high performance cars and sports cars the opportunity to drive their cars on a race track with driving coaches.
On Sunday, PBIR’s road course changed gears and hosted the Florida Track Days motorcycle group. Florida Track Days coordinates trackside motorcycle events where riders have a safe and closed course where they can take their street and race bikes to the limits.
On the drag strip side of PBIR, Saturday’s activities included the Fun Run Test and Tune. Open to all makes and models, the Fun Run Test and Tune provided an extra night of on-track activity for the drag racers.
Sunday afternoon, PBIR hosted Round 2 of the National Sports Compact Racing Association (NSCRA). Nine classes of drag racing competition took the strip as the best of the best import cars raced for bragging rights and prize money. Known as the world’s fastest sport compact racing series, the NSCRA wowed the crowds with some great runs and on-track battles. In addition to the race, NSCRA brought a 20-class car show and hot body contest to the PBIR drag strip paddock.
“We had an amazing amount of activity this weekend at PBIR,” said Chris McMahan, Director of Race Operations, Palm Beach International Raceway. “Today’s NSCRA event exceeded our expectations and brought some of the best sport compact racing to PBIR’s drag strip. The drag race fans walked to the road course to watch some of Florida Track Days and the motorcycles cruise around the road course. Overall, this was a great weekend for PBIR and the race fans.”
