What better to commemorate the rich history of the iconic venue than to celebrate with the 17-time world champion and owner of 144 national-event victories.
Garlits was the first man to go 200 miles per hour in a Top Fuel dragster. A true motorsports icon, he was a pioneer in the development of the rear-engine dragster, Nomex fire suits, and many other safety innovations.
Gates open at 11 a.m. for the Pro Hydro Clean Last Lap. Tickets are just $10 and parking is FREE. Garlits and fellow drag racing legend Darrell Gwynn are scheduled to sign autographs as part of the “Last Lap Nostalgic Exhibition Show.”
Still an innovator, Garlits has been on the forefront of electric vehicle development. He added to his legendary career in 2019 by rocketing his Swamp Rat 38 battery-powered dragster down the PBIR quarter-mile at 189.03 miles per hour, nearly five mph faster than the previous world record.
His Swamp Rat 38 will be on display during the Last Lap festivities and he’s expected to make a pass down the drag strip with hopes of breaking the 200 mph barrier.
It’s a fun-filled day also featuring:
- “Parade of Cars” around the road course of vehicles representing the decades
- “Last Lap Car Show” featuring both exotic sports cars and American muscle
- “Last Lap Heads-Up Racing” with cars from different decades
- Music representing the different decades of the venue including a live broadcast from Oldies 95.9 / 106.9 FM
- Displays of great moments throughout the history of PBIR
- The fire-breathing Larsen Jet Cars roaring down the drag strip
